Jose Mourinho was sadly sacked from his position as Manchester United manager in the early hours of Tuesday, and in less than 48hours, the 55-year old Portuguese manager was replaced by 45-year old former Manchester United striker and Norwegian international, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take over the management of the clubs football in a caretaker role until the end of the season.
Interestingly, the first match that the new caretaker manager will take charge of will be against his former Premier League employers Cardiff City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to save the South Wales club from going on relegation when he was their manager four years ago in 2014. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was thereby subsequently sacked by Cardiff City then and the 45-year old Norwegian manager went back to his home country where he got a new job to manage Norwegian club Molde FK.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new employer Manchester United would be facing his former employers Cardiff City in the south of Wales on Saturday evening in a tricky battle against Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City side.
In the pre-match press conference, Cardiff City manager, Neil Warnock said about the new Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer:
“I think it’s the best job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have in his life, because he can’t lose really. He’ll hold the fort until the end of the season, he’s there for at least six months and if he does well he’ll get a couple of years. And if he doesn’t, he goes back to where he was enjoying anyhow.”
New Manchester United caretaker manager also says about his new role at Manchester United:
“The first thing is the first game. Think about getting my principles into the boys, get the players to understand how I want them to play, how we want to play as a team, work together and then let’s take the results later on.
“See how many points we can gather, but this club has made up many, many points before, but I’m not going to set that target now because you’ve got to go game by game to start with.”
Cardiff City vs Manchester United
Cardiff City physios and examiners are still sweating over the fitness of left-back Joe Bennet while Jazz Richard is also due for a fitness test by the physios and team doctors. This could mean that Lee Peltier or Greg Cunningham would be available to start the game against Manchester United.
New manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have some first team selection dilemma ahead of his first game in charge of Manchester United as some key players are still out due to injuries. Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku will be unavailable as he has been handed a leave on compassionate grounds, while Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are still nursing different degrees of injuries and are therefore a doubt to be involved in the game on Saturday.
Predicted Starting Line-Ups
