It has been three years since Nigeria’s former petroleum minister, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke has been hiding in the United Kingdom. Allegations of corruption, embezzlement, and misappropriation of public funds were leveled against the former minister by the Mohammadu Buhari led administration in its efforts to fight corruption.
The Federal government of Nigeria, has now requested that a warrant of arrest be issued by the International Police (Interpol) for the arrest of the former minister who has since fled the country.
According to reliable sources, we have gathered that the office of the Attorney General of the Federation has filed all criminal charges and injunction attached with the request of extradition sent to the International Police (Interpol).
According to correspondence gathered from sources, we also learned that the order for the arrest of Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke which was issued at the Federal High court sitting in Abuja by Justice Valentine Ashi on the 4th of November this year was also attached with the request of extradition that was sent to the Interpol.
This request for the extradition of the former petroleum minister means that all members of the International Police community are dutifully obligated under the law to arrest the former minister Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke whenever and wherever she is spotted anywhere within their borders.
The Federal High Court order had previously instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP); the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission; the Director General of the State Security Services (SSS); and all heads of the other security agencies in the country to arrest and detain the former minister for petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke so she can face trial for the corruption charges brought against her.
The order of arrest which was dutifully signed by the Federal high court registrar, Mr. Balami was also attached with the warrant for execution on Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke as instructed by Justice Valentine Ashi of the Federal High Court Abuja.
Sources close to the Attorney General’s office said:
“We have filed the necessary processes and the Interpol has red-flagged Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke. This means that the process of extradition has already begun and the former petroleum minister may be arrested by the British police or any police or security agency all over the world and repatriated to Nigeria.”
However, after checks on the official website of the Interpol, it was discovered that Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke has not yet been listed on the wanted section of the Interpol website.
We continue to watch as the Muhammad Buhari led federal government continues in its efforts to fight corruption and rid the country of corrupt practices and corrupt public office holders.
