The entire football world was shocked when Manchester United announced the sacking of club manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday morning after spending about three seasons with the club and winning three trophies – UEFA Europa League, EFL Cup, and the English FA Cup – within that period.
Right now, Manchester United has accidentally announced that they have appointed a new caretaker manager to guide the club until the end of the season when they finally appoint a new full-time manager. In a video released Wednesday morning on Manchester United’s official website, former club striker and legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was revealed as the new caretaker manager until the end of the season. The video which was posted on the Manchester United club’s official website was titled: “The most famous night of Ole’s career” and has the caption “Solskjaer becomes our interim manager, 20 seasons after clinching the Treble with THAT goal at Camp Nou.” has since been removed from the website after it went viral on all news and social media platforms.
It is believed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a clause agreed in his Manchester United agreement that will allow him to go back and resume his role as manager with his current club Molde FK of Norway at the end of the season when his contract as caretaker manager at Manchester United expires. It is also believed that with the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager of Manchester United, Mike Phelan who was assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson could also return to Old Trafford to take up a job as a first-team coaching staff. Mike Phelan left Manchester United in 2013 after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Meanwhile, Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg was also quick to congratulate her fellow countryman over the appointment as the new caretaker manager at Manchester United. Erna Solberg congratulated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on social media messaging app Twitter in a tweet that has since been deleted.
In other related news, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been tipped to return to his former employers and Spanish football heavyweights, Real Madrid. Former Real Madrid President, Ramon Calderon has claimed that Jose Mourinho would have been their new manager already if Jose Mourinho had been available or out of a job when Real Madrid sacked their former manager Julen Lopetegui in October. Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid in 2013 before returning to former club Chelsea where he won the Premier League and then later joining Manchester United in 2016.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have little time to work with the Manchester United squad before they travel to the South of Wales in preparation for their match against Cardiff City at the weekend. Manchester United also has matches against Huddersfield and Bournemouth in the busy December fixtures.
We do hope that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can bring some measure of stability and unity to the United squad which can then transcend to the quality of football on the pitch.
