Sometimes, it can be excruciating from many families that rely on just a single source of income to make ends meet, not to talk of have any savings because although being a stay at home mom or dad is a full-time job that requires all your time the sad thing is that it comes with no salary or allowance whatsoever.
Interestingly, there are several amazing ways you can make huge money while being a stay at home mom or dad so as to support the family’s main income stream without you having to forgo spending quality time with your kids or even leaving the confines of your home.
In this article, I will be sharing some eye-opening tips and strategies on a step by step basis on how you can make huge money as a stay at home mom or dad. While the majority of these ideas require computer and internet access, the majority of these suggestions have low to zero startup costs and require little to no additional schooling.
1. Sell your Old/unused items
You may think: “Who needs my old stuff?” or perhaps you think “Who buys old, used stuff” or “Who will buy my old, used stuff?”. But selling your old stuff is one of the quickest and natural ways of making huge money as a stay at home mom or dad. You could sell that your old (and vintage) books, you could also sell your old or used smartphones, smartphone chargers, old laptops, old laptop chargers, old computers and monitors, gaming console, shoes, bags, and so many things. There is a fine list of some cool places and online stores you can sell your old items. Some very good examples are Amazon, Jiji, Jumia, Konga, eBay, Craigslist, olx. You can sell any type of items on these online platforms ranging from your old books to your smartphones and even bigger items like your electronics. You can also try the word of mouth approach too, where you physically have to tell people to tell other people that you have some old item to sell.
2. Become a Tutor
Tutoring is a very flexible type of career, and because the need for tutors in some certain subjects is on the ascendancy and in very high demand you can choose to work only in the evenings and on weekends. In the US, it is possible for a stay at home mom or dad to earn up to $50 per hour teaching Science, Mathematics or Physics depending on how experienced you are in the subject or your location. According to PayScale, the average tutor can earn up to about $18 per hour.
You can register as a Tutor on online platforms like HiClass. Companies like Kaplan also offer such tutoring opportunities for stay at home moms and dads to tutor scholars who are preparing to write the international GMAT, ACT, SAT exams and some other international exams and tests. There is also a great need for virtual tutoring now especially for school children that live abroad and needs to learn English.
Blogging is one super cool, fun and easy way for stay-at-home moms and dads to make some extra income to support the family’s main source of income. Perhaps this is the best time for you to jump on the blogging hysteria before you start to use your free time to hop from changing your kid’s diapers to attending to kids, to washing some dirty clothes and shuttling kids here and there.

There are a million and one blogs already that talks about mom and dad topics. Why not blog about other numerous topics that are dear to you. It could be traveling, arts, fashion, photography, space travel, science, history or anything at all that you are passionate about. The more you churn out original, engaging, entertaining, creative and informative articles like this one you’re reading, the earlier you’ll start gaining the followership of regular readers which will eventually translate to you making cool money as a stay at home mom or dad. You can take advantage of the free Google AdSense service to make cool money from your blog by displaying adverts on your blog. Affiliate marketing is also a cool way of making money from your blog. You earn a commission whenever someone clicks on an advert on your blog and purchases an item or product as a result.
4. Data entry
This type of job does not require an education or a university degree or any form of previous experience, all that is required is that you accurately enter data or information in a computer. Even though data entry sounds like a technical job, as a stay at home mom or dad, you only need to know how to use a computer, how to type fast and accurately, how to install and uninstall a computer software, how to create folders, send emails and generally use the internet. It simply requires a computer and access to the internet. The average pay for a data entry clerk in the US is about $13 per hour according to PayScale although some companies decided to pay according to the volume of data entered. When you upload or submit a photo on these sites and they are accepted, you can earn from 25 cents up to $120 per photo when they are downloaded by subscribers on these sites.
Instagram is also a great platform where you can monetize the pictures that you upload. As a stay at home mom or dad, you should leverage on these platforms.
